MAAR brand's debut collection: Oranges by the pool

This is the first collection of our brand, which consists of thirty different pieces. We wanted it to be different, unique and handmade.

MAAR is far from a minimalist aesthetic, which is why the silver and gold-plated versions are decorated with large, irregular pearls and stones such as coral, carnelian, chalcedony, larimar or quartz. Colour plays a key role here. Carnelian in a shade of orange and chacedony blue are reminiscent of oranges and water - hence the name of the collection - Oranges by the pool.

Since the jewellery was created during the pandemic, it is a natural reflection of a longing for distant travels and the taste of tropical fruits. Necklaces with juicy carnelian cut into the shape of a water drop and pendants with silver and gold-plated papaya, filled with orange and pink beads, remind us of carefree moments. The white and blue structure of the larimar, which from a distance looks like shimmering pool water, can be found in our limited edition signet model.

An important source for the organic forms of our designs is the observation of nature and art. The cracks in the rocks, the shapes of the lakes (including the maar lakes that our brand name originates from), and the sea waves have determined the final appearance of chunky bands or ear cuffs. The design of the Aleph and Beth necklaces, on the other hand, was influenced by the extraordinary work of American artist Simone Bodmer-Turner. These two types of pendants are distinguished by their sculptural character and freedom of styling - they can be worn separately or hung in a cascading manner around the neck.

When creating the MAAR brand, we also thought about the girls who will wear it. We had been inspired by Scandinavian it girls, who impress with their naturalness, but are not afraid of colour. They love pastels and their original jewellery complements no less original stylizations.

Almost every piece in our collection, from sketches to prototypes carved in jewellery wax up to final designs has been handmade by us. In our work, we primarily use traditional jewellery techniques, which is why we spend several to dozen something hours when making one model of jewellery. In rings with chalcedony and carnelian, we refer with their form and design to ancient rings that have bezels, metal rims and brackets in the form of delicate tubes. Each piece is hand-cut, machined, ground and polished, and finally, the stone is also hand-set into it. We have also used 3D designing technique in some of the designs.

MAAR jewellery is made of 925 sterling silver. Some models are covered with a two-micron layer of 24-carat gold.
