MAAR summer 2021 collection "Flowers blooming in water”
"Flowers blooming in water" - is the title of MAAR new summer collection, which intertwines floral and marine motifs. In addition to somewhat abstract daisies, the designs feature blooming seaweed, shapes inspired by microscope photographs and almost transparent stones.- Our greatest inspiration was the work of Ernest Haeckel - a prominent biologist who made beautiful drawings when conducting research into e.g. aquatic organisms. Our designs have also been influenced by our fascination with design, particularly the work of the Italian Memphis Group, active in the 1980s, as well as contemporary Scandinavian glass and ceramic brands," say Agata Wojtczak and Antoni Bielawski, designers and founders of the MAAR brand. Hence, the collection features a lot of organic lines and irregular shapes, as well as transparencies. The splash of colour could also not be missing. - We have reached for blue and green - both darker and saturated, associated with the depths of the ocean, and bright green in lime shade. In the bracelets, on the other hand, we have included in a hint of orange, which refers to our first, début collection 'Oranges by the pool'.
All pieces in the new MAAR collection have been created using traditional goldsmithing techniques. Most of them were carved by hand from jewellery wax and then cast in silver and plated with 24-carat gold.- Antoni has spent the last few months creating all the prototypes himself, based on my sketches - adds Agata.
'Some pieces have such intricate ornamentation that they have required carving under a magnifying glass, while in the case of others the wax has been heated and applied in drops with a soldering iron-like tool to achieve rounded, bulbous shapes.
The collection features pearls and stones such as rock crystal, prehnite, agate, coral, moonstone and aquamarine. -We have created new versions of our rosette-cut stone ring - this time we have replaced the Rosé wine shade with pistachio prehnite. A complete novelty is the Miranda ring, in which an azure agate is set into a lace-type setting in our original version - the designers explain.
In addition to rings, earrings and necklaces, for the first time there are also bracelets (made of silver chains or rock crystal on colourful threads).- We also decided to create original clasps, the shape of which is associated with sea waves and also alludes to the form of our brand logo, add Agata and Antoni.
