ABOUT US

We are Agata Wojtczak and Antoni Bielawski and together we form the Maar brand. We both graduated in industrial design from the Academy of Fine Arts (Agata in Gdansk, Antoni in Warsaw), so we are designers by education. However, each of us is good in different fields. Agata has been involved in fashion for several years. She was an online editor for "ELLE" and "Vogue Poland" magazines. She is also involved in graphic design, creating illustrations and collages (her work has been published in "Harper's Bazaar" and "InStyle" magazines, among others). She is responsible for the aesthetic and creative side of Maar. Antoni, on the other hand, has so far prepared props and set design for music videos, theatre performances or TV commercials. He has also completed a jewellery course - and now handcrafts Maar designs.

The stones that adorn the jewellery come from all over the world, and all Maar designs are created in Poland, most of them in our studio in Praga district in Warsaw. Each piece is designed by us and made from scratch. We use the lost wax technique, and for some pieces we also use 3D design. We carve each mould from wax, set each stone in by hand, and we grind and polish each piece.

Maar is jewellery characterised by non-obvious and distinctive designs. In our designs we also include a splash of colour - we reach for intense oranges, shades of blue associated with azure water and pinks, among other colours. Maar jewellery is made of sterling silver and gold-plated sterling silver. On request, we also make jewellery entirely from gold. The name of the brand includes two letters 'A', which refer to our names, and also alludes to maar, a volcanic form created by an explosive eruption. Within some maars, gemstones are mined, and some maars are filled by water. The organic shapes of the maar lakes were our inspiration when creating the forms of the selected designs.

In 2021, our brand was awarded a distinction in the MUST HAVE 2021 poll organised by the Łódź Design Festival. In 2022, we were nominated in the DISCOVERY OF THE YEAR category by ELLE Poland magazine in the ELLE Style Awards 2022 competition.
